VS

Lithium Iron Phosphate - LFP - Lifep04

The best lithium battery chemistry for the majority of our applications is Lithium Iron Phosphate, shorted to LiFePO4 or LFP batteries. This new technology lasts longer and can be put through deeper cycles. They also require no maintenance or venting, unlike lead-acid batteries.

Lithium batteries cost more up front, but the extra efficiency means you spend exponentially less per kilowatt-hour of capacity over the lifespan of the battery when compared to lead-acid.

5 Key Differences Between Lead-acid and Lithium Batteries

1. Cycle life

When you discharge a battery, then charge it back up, that is referred to as one charge cycle. We measure the lifespan of batteries not in terms of years, but rather how many cycles they can handle before they expire. Think of it like putting mileage on a car. Cycle life is also a function of depth of discharge (how much capacity you use before recharging a battery). Deeper discharges on lead-acid put more stress on the battery, which shortens its cycle life. Lead acid batteries average 300-500 cycles until they need to be replaced. Lifep04 batteries average 2000-3000 cycles and will still be within 80% of their original capacity, this battery can still be used up to 5000+ cycles at the reduced capacity.

2. Depth of Discharge - DOD

Discharge depth refers to how much overall capacity is used before recharging the battery. For example, if you use a quarter of your battery’s capacity, the depth of discharge would be 25%.

Batteries don’t discharge fully when you use them. Instead, they have a recommended depth of discharge: how much can be used before they should be refilled.

Lead-acid batteries should only be run to 50% depth of discharge. Beyond that point, you risk negatively affecting their lifespan.

In contrast, lithium batteries can handle deep discharges of 90% or more. This essentially means they feature a larger (usable) capacity.

3. Efficiency

Lithium batteries are more efficient. This means that more of your solar power is stored and used.

As an example, lead acid batteries are only 80-85% efficient depending on the model and condition. That means if you have 1,000 watts of solar coming into the batteries, there are only 800-850 watts available after the charging and discharging process.

Lithium batteries are more than 95% efficient. In the same example, you’d have over 950 watts of power available.

Higher efficiency means your batteries charge faster. Depending on the configuration of your system, it could also mean you buying fewer solar panels, less battery capacity and a smaller backup generator.

4. Charge Rate

With higher efficiency also comes a faster rate of charge for lithium batteries. They can handle a higher amperage from the charger, which means they can be refilled much faster than lead-acid.

5. Energy Density

Double the amount of power and half the weight.

Lead-acid batteries are less than half as energy dense as a lithium battery. As an example, our 12v 100ah lithium replacement for a 100ah lead acid is less than half the weight. The lead acid is approximately 25kg's and the lithium weighs only 10.5 kg. The lithium battery has 1250wh of usable energy. Taking into account the 50% or less DOD of the lead acid counterpart, it will only have approximately half the usable energy (or less over time). In this comparison the Lifep04 battery is not only less than half the weight but also has double the energy density due to the poor DOD characteristics of lead acid. ach battery.

100ah 12v Lead acid battery deliver approximately 625wh per 25kg = 25wh per kg

100ah 12v ivolt Lithium battery delivers 1250wh per 10.5kg = 120wh per kg

Our lithium batteries have more than 4 times the energy density of a lead acid battery at 120wh/kg compared to 25wh/kg

Trolling Motor Batteries

Lithium Batteries for Trolling Motors and Fishfinders

A lot goes into preparing for that special weekend away when it comes to boating trips. As you rest your head down to sleep the night before you cannot help but run over everything in your checklist. Before the sun rises you want to be on the water anticipating that first bite on the Texas rigged plastic or vicious blow up on the Top water frog.

Every component of a boat must work together in order for you to create those unforgettable moments on the water. Often, we think about all the accessories we want to add to our bass boats to make them more functional and to improve our odds of catching our selected species, yet we pay less mind to the power required to achieve this.

Lithium Batteries allow you to use 95-100% of the rated capacity and Lithium can last anywhere from 2000-5000 cycles compared to the 300-500 cycles that more traditional lead acids batteries. This adds to your peace of mind when it comes to cranking up the trolling motor speed, burning down a bank power fishing or merely using the anchor feature and spot locking offshore in heavy wind. Having reliable batteries is on top on the list and being able to count on your fishing platform makes all the difference.

Lithium Batteries are typically half the weight and can push out double the usable capacity of the same size lead battery. Our Pro anglers manage to run 2-3 days in moderate weather on a single charge, the best part is one can expect this same outstanding performance for many years to come.

Our batteries come with a standard 5-year warranty and 2-year swap out warranty to make sure you are never off the water. All of our battery packs are designed and assembled in house.

Golf Cart Batteries

Upgrading to Lithium batteries can provide the end user with a host of benefits. Lithium batteries are lighter and smaller than more traditional batteries which will cut down on the weight of the cart increasing the acceleration and performance. Lithium batteries charge up to 3 times faster than and lead acid and the integrated battery management system protects the cells from over/under voltage as well as extreme temperatures. Lithium batteries are sealed units and require no maintenance once they have been installed. They last much longer than traditional batteries anywhere between 5 and 10 times that of its counterpart. Our batteries are all rated at 2000-5000 cycles and carry a comprehensive 5-year warranty.

The most common electric golf motors operate at 36 or 48 volts and draw between 50-100 amps constant and 200-400 amps of peak current while cruising at about 24 km per hour. Keep in mind that the current draw during acceleration or while going up a hill is much higher. To keep you from getting stranded, golf cart batteries must supply a steady flow of high current for long periods. Additionally, golf cart batteries will typically go through full charge and discharge cycles daily. Draining lead-acid batteries below 50% is hard on them and leads to a shortened lifespan and reduced performance.

We currently offer replacement lithium battery solutions for Club Car and EZ-GO golf carts in 36v and 48v. Each brand has different electronics and require some minor modifications to fit the lithium charger. The charger is a fraction of the size of the old lead-acid charger and is wired to the OEM plug on your cart.
